Hi my lovelies
Spring has finally arrived here on the Isle of Wight (about time too!), and so has this months Birchbox. It’s full of those spring feels which is perfect right now. This months box is also in collaboration with Cath Kidston, for the company’s 25th birthday. It is remarkable to see a company which has brought us so many classic and iconic designs doing well in this climate! I absolutely love their handbags and kitchen ware, so I’m hoping to stock up on some wanted items once I’ve finally moved!
Birchbox have been named as one of the top subscription boxes in the UK, and with the products on offer and those stocked in the shop, it’s not hard to see why! You can take out a subscription on a monthly basis, or you can pay for blocks of 3, 6 and 12 month periods in advance.
When you have subscribed for 6 months you then become a Birchbox VIP, which gives you a discount in the shop and first pick of the special offer for the month. Quite often this is a choice between two shades of the same item, or one month it was a choice of a face mask or eye mask!
So this months box featured 5 products. One of these was a full size brow gel from Beautique. Every subscriber was also given the choice of a Model Co highlighter in one of two shades. Finally, everyone received a limited edition hand cream from Cath Kidston (which smells amazing!).
But what else did I get?
My final two products related to skincare and hair care: a night cream and a hair conditioner.
In all honesty, I’ve received Birchbox for over a year now and I’ve always found it very hit and miss. One month there will be a fantastic box filled with great products, and you don’t know which to try first. And then other months will be kind of ‘meh’. I don’t want to bash the company because they are a great company, and this isn’t what this post is about. My point is why can’t Birchbox provide more full size items when their competition, Glossybox can do so for the same monthly price. I think the box this month has made me reconsider what other beauty boxes are out there which offer better value for month each month.
The special for the month was the Model Co baked highlighter which disappointingly was just a sample size. Usually the special for the month is a full size item. Glossybox also included a Model Co X Karl Legerfield highlighter this month but this was full size, so naturally you will get far more use from this. Sample sized items are fine for travelling, but when trying out there sorts of products, it’s sometimes easier to have full size.
I do enjoy trying out new skincare products, so the sleeping cream from Lumene was an exciting fine. The final product I received was a hair conditioner from HASK. I tend to get a lot of hair care products from Birchbox so this was not so welcome. I am more of a makeup person, so whilst I enjoy finding new hair products, it doesn’t bring me as much excitement as finding a new eyeshadow palette!
So would I considered cancelling my subscription? Yes I would. While I enjoy getting a monthly box, I tend to receive a lot of hair care products which I find don’t do my oily hair much good. I’d prefer to try more new makeup and skin care products. I’ve also lost my excitement for the boxes so maybe it’s time to try something new. Getting a surprise monthly box should be fun and exciting, not meh!
Let me know in the comments below if you’ve tried Birchbox and what you think!
Until next time
